Detailed description of Oak Mallett Golf Club, CLOSED 2014

Oak Mallett Golf Club, is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Findlay, Ohio.

Oak Mallett Golf Club first opened for play in 1931. The course was named Fairview Golf Course until a change in ownership in 1997.

This fairly flat course has small greens that are slightly sloped and fast. There aren't any sand bunkers on this course, however, water hazards are in play on seven of the nine holes. The fairways are tree lined, bordered by rough, and home to a wide variety of wildlife.

Par for the course is 35. From the back tees, the course plays to 2977 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 2155 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 530 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 125 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 4, a 400-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 8, a 170 yard par-3.

Oak Mallett Golf Club has been sold, according to Mike Mallett, who co-owned the course with his wife Anne.

New owner Levi Wittenmyer won’t use the 50-plus acre parcel as a golf course. The golf course’s Facebook page says the golf course will likely be farmed.

“We bought it in 1997 and the first five years it was gangbusters. We did great,” Mallett said. “The last 10 years were a struggle. We probably lost $350,000 during that time.

Mallett tried everything to make a go of it the last couple of years. The course even dropped its rates to $5 per 9-hole round but even that couldn’t turn things around.

“I think the high-end courses are still doing fairly well. It’s the small courses where it’s toughest,” Mallett said. “Even if we didn’t sell, we weren’t probably going to open this year, it would have been cheaper not to.”

Mallett bought the course for $350,000 from Ken and Jane Parish, according to records on the Hancock County Auditor’s website.

Big WASTE of my money and time!!! I don't think they have ever use any chemicals on the grass; I could hardly find my ball because there was so much clover and dandilions on the course. Couldn't even hardly get a tee in the ground because it was so hard and cracked. Not sure if management knows what they're doing. It also has very limited parking.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby, Worse than average course for the area
